Treatment

Once you’ve received a diagnosis of FL, your doctor will talk to you about your options for treatment. They will use your individual diagnosis, stage and grade of Follicular Lymphoma and your age and general health to recommend the best treatment.

Here, you can find valuable information on the various treatment options available, including radiotherapy, immunotherapy, chemotherapy, combined immune-chemotherapy, maintenance therapy, and more.

Remission & maintenance

Living with follicular lymphoma often means shorter or longer periods of remission – where the cancer cells are not detectable in your body after treatment for a period of time. Around 50% of FL patients will have a first remission lasting 5-10 years after their initial treatment.

One option your doctor may recommend during your period of remission is maintenance therapy – where additional rounds of treatment are given to keep the cancer at bay for longer. Follow the link below to learn more.

When FL returns or changes

Some people may respond well to their first treatment but after a period of time their disease returns. Although this is common it is upsetting. Unfortunately, most people living with FL will find it returns several times and they will have different treatments during the course of their illness. A small number of patients will also find that their FL progresses or transforms to a faster-growing type of lymphoma.

In both cases, there are several options that your clinical team may recommend. Read more here to understand the different terminologies and treatment options available.
